Artist Statement:
“Grooming Kumang II’ depicts a young Iban maiden, who’s getting ready for the Gawai Dayak celebration (i.e. an annual festival celebrated by the Dayaks in Sarawak ). The term ‘Kumang’ refers to the legendary deity of the Iban, whose essence of beauty and weaving talent is the inspiration of the Iban substance.
